The skin can also be dehydrated

Not only the body, it turns out the skin can also become dehydrated. The good news, there are ways to keep the skin moist from the inside. Dehydration of the skin or dry skin is a condition when the skin lacks fluids in the epidermal layer, causing loss of Natural Moisturizing Factor or skin's natural moisturizing factor which results in decreased levels of moisture. Be aware if you experience symptoms of skin dehydration as below.
  • The skin feels tight and itchy, especially after washing, bathing, or swimming.
  • The skin looks dull and feels rough.
  • There are fine lines or peeling on the skin of certain body parts.

Behind Skin Dehydration

The outer layer of the skin is called the epidermis. In this layer, there are 4 types of layers of skin cells, one of which is the stratum corneum. Stratum corneum (SC) is the lipid-protein membrane that plays the most role when the skin is dehydrated. This fluid in the epidermal layer acts to maintain elasticity and prevent dry skin. In this stratum corneum, there are important components, such as natural moisturizing factor (NMF) or a natural moisturizing factor that is tasked with maintaining the level of skin moisturizing fluid. NMF is a combination of hygroscopic molecules (water attractive and retaining properties) that help maintain hydration in the stratum corneum. Some of the content of NMF is salt (including electrolytes), urea, and lactate. Amino acids are also stored in it. NMF production is very dependent on the humidity of the surrounding environment. When the liquid content is less than 10 percent, the surface of the skin will become dry. Dry skin may be a sign that the body lacks fluids. You can prevent the condition of skin dehydration by drinking electrolytes regularly at any time, including before going to sleep so that the skin is kept moist from within. This is because electrolyte fluid can replace the body's sodium, potassium, and magnesium components that are lost through sweating. Beautiful skin can be had by anyone. But keeping it dehydrated is also very important. Drinking lots of electrolytes will help keep your natural skin moist. At the same time, maintain healthy skin even though you are busy moving.
